The image of Nuestra Senior Sto. Niño de Romblon will return home after 22 years.
The Sto. Niño image which was believed to yield miracles was stolen in 1991 at the St. Joseph Cathedral. The lost image landed on the hands of an antique collector from an antique dealer based in Aklan.
When the antique collector bought the Sto. Niño image, the gold crown was already missing. It was Fr. Joebert Villasis, a friend of the collector, who asked Professor Jun Mijares of Aklan Catholic College for confirmation if it was the stolen Sto. Niño de Romblon. It turned out that it really is.
Archbishop Jose Corazon Talaoc of Kalibo, Aklan, a former bishop of Romblon, shared that the image will be brought back home on February 9.
It will be a momentous event for the people of Romblon to welcome a significant religious symbol that was once lost and found.
